Hello, I’m back again with my favourite TV shows as a young adult part #2! Here’s part one if you missed it. 🙂

Kicking off with number 5!

5) Supernatural
Supernatural/Horror Drama
Cast: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver
Number of Seasons so far: 7
What is it: This series follows two brothers; Sam and Dean Winchester as they hunt the Supernatural ranging from werewolves to angels and demons. Along the way they search for their father, and try to avenge their mothers death.
Why I like it: It’s wow. Just wow! As a huge lover of the Supernatural, myths and legends this show is absolutely fantastic because it incorporates so many of them. The dialogue is witty and smart. The brotherly relationship between the two leads is also brilliant and complex. It has fantastic music! A rocking black 67 Impala car. It’s a must see. Nuff said.

Hello all, I’m back with my guest blog of the month. 🙂
Ok, so I spend a lot of my time watching TV. Like 76% of it. And about 50% of that time should probably go on something else, like…..I don’t know, school work? But ohh well. During that time I’ve watched an endless amount of shows; dramas, thrillers, science fiction etc and continue to do so. But sometimes after watching a really good series, many other shows in comparison, just don’t quite make the cut. Therefore I’ve decided to make this list, with the idea in mind that it may save someone out there from having to sift their way through all the rubbish programs to find the good ones.
So here’s part one of my top 10 favorite shows as a young adult:

First, I would like to apologize for my lack of posting lately. The bloody finals have started, so most of my time is spent with textbooks and notebooks.

Second, I would like to draw your attention to a new (awesome!) Nerdfighter project. Hannah Lindgren, a Nerdfighter about to graduate from  Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, has plans of making a documentary film about Nerdfighteria; “A Film to Decrease Worldsuck”.

These are the details from the documentary’s official website:

This documentary is not for personal gain (other than to help me graduate!) I want to make this film as my senior honors thesis, and would then want to share it, and the story of the Nerdfighters, with the world. Setting all of this up is really a sort of campaign to see if we can gather support and catch the attention of Hank and John. Without their support, I’m not sure if we can make this film.

  • Length — 30 to 40 minutes
  • Intended Audience — Nerdfighters and people who should know about Nerdfighters (AKA everyone)
  • Story — Behind-the-scenes look at the culture and history of the Nerdfighters community and movement. A 360-degree view of what Nerdfighting is all about and the impact of this community on the world
  • Style — A hybrid of direct cinema b-roll (see the documentary Monterey Pop) with limited use of tripod attempting to capture the emotions of the fans at the events; simultaneously telling the story of VidCon and/or other Nerdfighter gatherings while telling the whole story of how the Vlogbrothers came about (see the documentary Man on Wire.)
  • Additional — With permission, archival footage of the Vlog Brothers will be included, especially in framing the origin of the movement plus as many video clips as possible from other You Tube vloggers to showcase the movement
  • Sound — As much natural sound as possible but with cleaner interview segments, and with permission we would utilize Hank’s music and any other music from any other YouTube artists that would let us
  • Distribution — Film festivals, my parent’s living room, whoever wants to see it because that’s the point!
  • Timeline — Completed by Spring 2013, because that’s when I need to graduate!

A huge part of what will make this documentary spectacular is YOU, the Nerdfighters. I’m thinking poster and t-shirt design contests… screenings around the country… interviews and testimony about how you became a Nerdfighter… there is no end to the awesome! Let me know how you think the Nerdfighters could get involved at nerdfightersdocumentary@gmail.com

The production teams needs some help raising money for the project. If you’d like to be awesome and help out, you can fund the film here. There are some great perks, including getting your nerdfighter art in the credits.

The structure of the film.

The documentary will feature vlogs of Nerdfighters telling their stories. The more people submit vlogs, the better.  It’s like a big puzzle – we need to get all of these mini stories to tell one big one.

Wondering what you should Vlog about?

Help out, spread the word and DFTBA,

Hello, it’s that guest post time of the month again! This time I’m bringing you a review of Knight and Day, a comedy action film first released in 2010. When I think about it, it’s quite strange of me to watch this film. I’m not a big fan of Tom Cruise (although he does occasionally do some really great movies) and usually when I see Cameron Diaz I run in the other direction, expecting a whiny female portrayal somewhat similar to Jennifer Aniston. However, I’m really glad I decided to give it a go.

The Plot
June Havens (Cameron Diaz) is walking through the airport intending to head to Boston for her sisters wedding when Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) bumps into her. They exchange pleasantries and go their own way. However as ‘fate’ would have it, they end up on the same plane, which is suspiciously empty. They flirt with each other, and June departs for the rest room to freshen up. Meanwhile Miller is attacked by everyone on board. He skillfully dispatches them and when June returns he calmly tells her he has killed them. She thinks he is joking until he informs her that he must now pop into the cockpit, to work out how to land the plane (having killed the pilot). As the plane swerves dangerously the bodies fall into the isle making June realize he’s serious. Chaos ensues and they make a crash landing. She discovers that Miller is a spy on the run – although she does not know why. As she searches for answers Miller informs her that he has drugged her. She passes out, and he sends her back to her normal life.
However soon after waking up, she finds herself being pursued by persistent officials in suits. Miller comes to her rescue and they go on the run.

The Verdict
To make it clear, this is not a Bourne Identity type of film. I see it as more of a subtle parody of spy films (I’m not sure if this was the aim, or if it’s simply my interpretation of it) but I personally think it worked very well. I know that the film has received mixed reviews from critics and move-goers alike but I suspect that’s because comedy is subjective. I felt that this film was just right. It was funny without going overboard. It was compelling enough to keep you watching, and it was character based enough for you to become invested. I was actually surprised as the film went on that the plot did have a reasonable amount of depth, something I wasn’t expecting for such a lightweight watch.

There was nothing particularly memorable about the cinematography, as there rarely is in this kind of film, but there was certainly nothing bad about it either. The shots are perfectly framed and the scenes are set up well for maximum comedic effect. CGI is also sprinkled throughout to cater to those that love their car chases and big explosions.

The acting was spot on. Tom Cruise’s well timed facial expressions and seriousness juxtaposed with how absolutely insane he looked makes for some funny scenes. Marc Blucas who plays June’s firefighting ex boyfriend does this equally well, rewarding us with some great chuckles. Cameron Diaz also holds her own. Although she is not as comedically gifted, she manages to straddle the fragile line of being a heroine in distress without coming across as utterly pathetic.

To summarize I think this is an entertaining, lightweight film, as long as you recognize it for what it is. I think a lot of people might have gone to the theatre expecting a more Bourne or Salt-esk spy film, but Knight and Day is much more about the comedy than the complex. It’s lightweight, it’s clichéd, but at the end of the day, that’s why it works.

I give this film 4/5

Firstly, I want to apologize for the lack of posting lately. I haven’t had the time to write anything recently, there are a couple of reasons for this, and for the first time ever, procrastination is not one of them.

My grandparents invited me along for vacation in Dubai. Dubai, If you don’t know, is in the UAE. It was featured in the new Mission: Impossible movie, with the tallest building in the world. Burj Khalifa is not the only must see location in Dubai, the four days I spent there were most definitely not enough. We visited the aquarium, which is in one of the biggest malls I’ve ever seen. Anyhow, the aquarium is like 3 stories high and you can walk in a tunnel going through it. The awesome-st thing about the aquarium is the Nemo tank, which contains every character from the movie. We also visited the indoor ski hill. FYI, Dubai is actually a dessert, so we went to a skiing slope in a mall in a dessert. How epic is that?!

We stayed in the World’s tallest hotel, the Blue-ish tower. Sleeping in the 34th floor was rather frightening.

The most breathtaking experience of it all has got to be watching the fountains. Imagine this: music starts playing and water fountains dance along to it, moving in all directions and going as high as a 50 story building, and I’m not exaggerating. Although the fountains are undeniably beautiful and sort of made me want to cry, the fact that they pay a billion or more dollars each time the fountain dances got me thinking. Is watching water dance really worth billions of dollars everyday? Why are humans selfish? Others are dying because of the lack of basic needs, food, water and shelter while the billionaires of Dubai are building dancing fountains for their entertainment. Keep mind that Dubai is in a third world country!

I am also being overworked by school, I have just finished my monthly exams and should be starting to prepare for my finals. Since I’m going into IB,a graduation program on steroids, I’m going to have to work extra hard. I’ll try to blog as much as possible during my finals, I’m planning to write at least 15 minutes everyday.

Note: the video is not mine and neither is the photo, obviously. I will upload the ones I took once my aunt hands over the camera.

A game of 11 questions has been trending around the blogging world. Well, at least the blogs I follow. James from Vibes and Stuff tagged me to answer 6 random questions, so, for whoever is interested, here are my answers.

Favorite genre of music?

Rock, my favorite bands include My Chemical Romance, Queen and Bon Jovi.

 Favorite item of clothing?

Jeans are what I wear most, but I’m also a fan of skirts.

Which celebrity do you hate the most?

I don’t really “hate” any of them, since all I know about them is what the media shows. However, I really can’t tolerate the Kardashians and the entire Jersey Shore cast.

 What is love to you?

Love is when you find yourself thinking of someone else’s needs before yours.

Who’s your favorite celebrity?

Edward Norton or Emma Stone.

If you could go back to any period of time, when would you go back to?

The problem with the past is that it’s mostly sexist. And I really don’t think I can live without the Internet.  But I think I *might* like to visit the sixties or seventies.

Now, I need to come up with my own questions…

If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?

What is your biggest fear?

What is your least favorite music genre?

Would you ever go bungee jumping or sky diving?

Is the glass half empty or half full?

Do you believe in love at first sight?

If you could have any job, what would you want to do?

where would your dream vacation be?

If you could eliminate one word from the english language, what would it be?

If you could meet one famous person, dead or alive, who would it be?

What do you think of reality TV?
